Christmas Eve

So here I am on Christmas Eve at the computer with my computer whiz brother-in-law. My niece is belly aching about joining the family.

Kite Runner

Having read Kite Runner this passed summer I am very anxious to see the movie. I loved the book. The movie seems to have mixed reviews. I will see it regardless. Interestingly en0ugh though, I saw an item on TV about it. I found it disturbing. It seems the people? of Afghanistan find the movie offensive as the part about the rape is taboo. Well do they think such a thing doesn't exist? Do they think such a thing would not be taboo anywhere???? The little boy did not want to be involved in such a scene, that can be understood. The movie then may only infer the incident. It said that the two children in the movie had to be moved (out of the country?) for their safety!!!

Sometimes it's hard to accept cultural differences, I don't say understand, because sometimes there is no understanding, only acceptance.

Tired

Christmas is less than 2 weeks away. Class is finished! I really think I will keep blog and web. Not much to say now just keeping blog open.

A Great Weekend

This passed weekend I attended a holiday party at the home of some friends. These are friends I don't see that often but always have a great time when I do. They have a lovely home on a lagoon, and they are great hosts. There were some old and new friends there. I was quite surprised to see on old friend and we did some catching up.

Then came the kareokee, that was it. The next evening my sister, who was at the party too, called and said she didn't think I was ever going to let that mike go. It was my first time, and I do like to sing.

I spent the night at the home of one of my other friends that attended the party. We stayed up until 2AM talking. The next morning we woke to her dog barking. I went out the bedroom door to see what was up and she said the dish man is here. ????? TV dish man! Since it had snowed a bit the young man could not climb up on the roof. My friend and I looked at each other and said "IHOP". And so we quickly dressed and went off to breakfast.

All and all a really great time. Friends are great!!! Hi, Joyce and someday Helana.

explorer 7

Yesterday this computer wanted to install or update internet to explorer something 7 so I let it. The screen looks different and it seems so slow now. I have to learn patience, when I click something I need to learn to wait a bit. I noticed on the toolbar thing it said create post so I waited. Usually I'm click happy.

Anyway have this awful stomach virus still, since Sunday evening. I actually felt better last night so I decided to go to work today. I got dressed and hit the bathroom a few times. Once I got my coat on still had to stop again. On my way out the door still felt like running and tried to suppress it and went on my way. Bad move, stuck in a bit of traffic and was lucky I made it to Dunkin Donuts. You would think I'd turn around and go home. Not me! In work I had to run to rest room about 3 times in a half hour, then my stomach started to hurt and I broke out in a sweat. That was it, packed it in and went home.

Good thing? I should lose a little weight. Little if any appetite due to constant feeling of gagging and wanting to vomit.

Thanksgiving is over

Almost thought I lost this blog again for a minute. Had to buy a new mouse, just trying it out. Thanksgiving is over onward to Christmas. I have a lot of Chapter 9 to read, I thought it was shorter than it actually is. One of the pages looks like the chapter endings so I thought I only had about 3 pages to go. I've had a stomach virus for the last two days and didn't do much but sleep and visit the bathroom often. Then I discovered today I actually have about 20 pages to read yet. It isn't half as bad as chapter 8, in fact it's like an old friend. Things I actually understand and things we've already done in the course of this semester. Makes me wish I had read this chapter earlier maybe before having attempted web site and links and such. Back to reading now, mouse seems to work fine. I had to take the camera thing out of the ub port, doesn't matter because my daughter-in-law never did their end so my camera was useless. And she bought it for me. The port in the front of the tower I use more often for charging my mp3.

My digital story idea

My digital story is going to be about me and my family. I have many digital pictures so I'm going to start with the memorial to my mother from Race for the Cure. Next I would like to take clip art of a rainbow and start music "She's a Rainbow" by the Rolling Stones, only because I don't know how to narrate and the music is on my computer and so are all the pictures I want to use. I just finished putting all the pictures on the computer. I'll start with me in Sciliy and text about my family roots being in Italy. Then the fissure and text saying how grandma spoke broken English and the guide on Mt. Etna reminded me of her and I thought he spoke broken English too when he said fissure I thought he was saying fisha like grandma would have said fish. I wondered what a fish would be doing on the top of Mt Etna.

Next family maybe family reunion with oldest cousins, more cousins and little Pete and me and Jackie and Jodi. Then Jodi with sweat shirt, then whole family at shower. Then Niko in blue then Niko Christening, then me with smooshed grand kids then Bermuda with Guyanese and get a shot of me with a class for last.

What a week

Almost couldn't remember id and password again, then clicked create instead of post. It really has been some week. This week's readings were very difficult for me. I can't even remember what else went on this week beside reading chapter 8.

Today at the end of the work day had problem at work that also proved to be quite a let down. Then went and paid $375 for my passenger seat belt repair. Now after reading all class posts and creating my own as well as viewing video case and commenting on that, I'm tired and closing down shop. And I have tomorrow to try to figure out how to create and manage my digital story.

vacation

Next week is vacation. I'm going on a cruise with my sister, my niece and her family and a lot of my niece's in-laws. My niece's in-laws are Guyanese ( hope I spelled that right). They are fun, party people. They all speak with this lyrical Jamacian type accent. They are mostly short and dard skinned and dark haired. I, on the other hand, am tall and blonde. So I kind of stand out among them. My niece's sister-in-law's sister is the mother of children I have had in my gifted class.

My sister hasn't had such a vacation since she was in her teens and my brother took her on a cruise, about 35 years ago. I kind of talked her into this after my other sister's house, in which this particular sister lives too, burned in late June. They have all been displaced, until the house is repaired. So I had my sisters with me a few days and the younger one and I decided to take this cruise. I'm more excited for her than I am for myself. I've been fortunate to be able to travel a bit in the last 15 years or so. Prior to that I had not left the tri-state area until I was 34. A 15 year wedding anniversary as well as completing my BA. present to me from, pretty much me! I let the then husband come. (grin)

Can't wait!! CAN"T WAIT!!!!

When I retire

Today I received an excellent e-mail entitled Happy IVGLDSW Day! Which stands for Today is International Very Good Looking, Damn Smart Woman's Day. In part the e-mail reads," Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, wine in the other, body throughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"

I have often said I will not go gently......... I also love another well known poem that is called WARNING first line," When I am an old woman I shall wear purple......... " Well I'm getting there and it's ok. In the class I am currently taking I am learning so much. I used to think when I retire I might get a job at an airline or airport, how hard can it be to announce "Now boarding flight 451 to Miami...." or I would like to work at Barnes and Noble or maybe not work anymore at all. I could wake up whenever I wake up and do whatever I please or nothing if I please.

I used to think this computer could get out of this house, what would I need it for? Now I know I need it to make money on my "Granny Blog" all sorts of companies will want to advertise on my site because it will be a big hit. Or maybe I'll write on wikis all day some days. The thing is it is not so far away.

Hallelujah!!!

Hallelujah I have a working blog. Someday may it and I rest in peace.

Now if my classmate Christine should read this I will say that any woman who has raised children would know the popularity of a mommy blog. A mom makes about$4000 a month I read or I think heard on TV. Bet if it existed when my kids were little I may have done so too.

Unless you've experienced being stuck in the house days on end in a dreary winter with one or two small children and can't wait until your husband comes home so you have (hopefully) a grown up to talk to or can have him stay with kids so you can visit your sister or something. I was not a bingo playing mom so my brother gave me some money to start my first class at college when my second child was about 9 months old. He would also watch the kids sometimes so I could attend college. Don't remember what the EX was doing.

Soon I wanted more and took a job as an instructor in a business school so I could step up the college. This was when the older one started school and got a sitter for the little one and went to school at night.

The rest another time maybe.

Here I Go Again

So this is my blog 2(too). Hopefully I can be patient enough when things don't show up immediately, to wait. Then maybe my blog will not disappear into the never-neverland of cyberspace. This blog business has been quite an experience. Too bad I couldn't make it like mommy blog and have some advertisers interested in me, then at least I'd make some money after all this frustration. Maybe at some point in the future when I have time I can make it worth my while.
